Chaparral was established in 1995, and named for the Mediterranean climate biome. Chaparral is a residential neighbourhood in the south-east quadrant of Calgary, Alberta.It is located at the southern edge of the city, south of the Soney Trail. To the east it is bordered by the Bow River Valley, to the south by 194 Avenue SE, and to the west by Macleod Trail.Three distinct divisions make up the total community of Chaparral.
Lake Chaparral is the largest division of Chaparral. Residents of the lake division enjoy the exclusive year round use of a 32-acre (130,000 m2) artificial lake and a 21-acre (85,000 m2) park.Chaparral Ridge is made up of approximately 800 households located on the NE Corner of Chaparral. Overlooking Fish Creek Provincial Park, the Ridge has some of the best views in the area.Chaparral Valley, the newest division of Chaparral, will have over 800 homes when Genstar Land Developer finishes this district. Chaparral Valley is nestled in the heart of Fish Creek Provincial Park. Extensive pathways and views of the Blue Devil Golf course are features Valley residents enjoy.
