Chaparral was established in 1995, and named for the Mediterranean climate biome.Chaparral is a residential neighbourhood in the south-east quadrant of Calgary, Alberta.It is located at the southern edge of the city, south of the Marquis de Lorne Trail. To the east it is bordered by the Bow River Valley, to the south by 194 Avenue SE, and to the west by Macleod Trail.Three distinct divisions make up the total community of Chaparral.
Lake Chaparral is the largest division of Chaparral. Residents of the lake division enjoy the exclusive year round use of a 32-acre (130,000 m2) artificial lake and a 21-acre (85,000 m2) park.Chaparral Ridge is made up of approximately 800 households located on the NE Corner of Chaparral. Overlooking Fish Creek Provincial Park, the Ridge has some of the best views in the area.Chaparral Valley, the newest division of Chaparral, will have over 800 homes when Genstar Land Developer finishes this district. Lake Community with More
Lake Chaparral is a 33 acre lake with an average depth of 35 feet. It is complimented by a 22 acre park. The lake was completed in November 1995. 1.2 million cubic meters of earth were moved. 200 million gallons of water were used to fill the lake, taking 49 days to fill. Did you know there is also an under water scuba diving course in the lake! The amenities include a beautifully landscaped park with cascading waterfalls, recreational building with social room and kitchen, sandy beach, fishing, boating, toboggan run, childrens’ playground areas, winter skating rink, picnic areas and cook shelter, tennis, basketball and beach volleyball courts, and walking path.
